Serving the Quad Cities and Beyond

The four communities around Prescott are not one market. They are four, and the differences matter more than most business owners expect.

Prescott Valley now has more people than Prescott. Chino Valley households earn about $13,000 a year less than Prescott Valley households, but own their homes at a far higher rate. Dewey-Humboldt is small enough that most of its residents work somewhere else. If you are spending money to reach customers across all four, you are reaching four different groups of people.

Working closely with businesses here gives me a firsthand read on that. I can work with clients anywhere, but I focus on local businesses because that is where I add the most. My specialty is Local SEO and building websites that help businesses show up in local search and connect with customers in their own community.

Below are the numbers, what I think they mean for your marketing, and a page for each community.

Population figures are U.S. Census Bureau estimates for July 2025. Income, age, and homeownership come from the Census Bureau 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey.

Together the four are home to about 119,000 people, up from roughly 110,000 in 2020. That is 8.5 percent growth in five years, faster than Yavapai County as a whole. Where that growth landed is the part worth paying attention to.

What the Numbers Mean for Your Marketing

Prescott is older than it looks on paper, and that changes your website

Prescott's median age is 59.7, and 41 percent of residents are 65 or over. That is about ten years older than Prescott Valley. In practice it means type size, color contrast, and tap target size are not box-checking on a Prescott-facing site. They decide whether a large share of your market can use the page at all. It also means phone calls still convert better than contact forms for a lot of Prescott businesses.

Prescott is the county seat and the institutional center, with Yavapai College, Embry-Riddle, Prescott College, and a VA medical center. Tourism, education, and healthcare drive the economy more than new rooftops do. If you sell to visitors, your busy season and your search traffic will not match a Prescott Valley competitor's.

Prescott Valley is where the growth is

Prescott Valley added 5,638 people since 2020. That is 60 percent of all the growth across the four communities combined, and it is now the largest municipality in Yavapai County. It is also the youngest and the highest earning of the four.

New residents are the best local search audience there is. They have no established habits and no existing plumber, dentist, or accountant. They search. If you serve Prescott Valley, showing up in the map pack is worth more to you than it is to any of your neighbors, and it is worth more this year than it was last year.

Chino Valley is a homeowner market, not a high income one

Chino Valley pairs the lowest median household income of the four with an 83 percent homeownership rate. That combination points at long-tenured owners on larger lots rather than high earners. Retail is a bigger share of local employment here than in the other three, helped by traffic on State Route 89.

For a service business, that argues for value and durability in your messaging rather than premium positioning. It also favors anything tied to property, from landscaping and fencing to well and septic work, HVAC, and roofing.

Dewey-Humboldt is small, and most of its business happens elsewhere

At about 4,600 residents and an 89 percent homeownership rate, Dewey-Humboldt has the least commercial base of the four. The school district is the largest employer. Most working residents commute, usually to Prescott Valley or Prescott.

If you are based in Dewey-Humboldt, your website has to reach past the town line. Your service area, not your street address, is what needs to be clear to Google. If you are based elsewhere, Dewey-Humboldt residents are already driving to you, and a page that says so will find them.

One Thing They Share

Yavapai County's average commute is 23.5 minutes. People here run their errands inside the Quad Cities rather than driving to Phoenix. That is why a local business with a site Google understands can win the whole region, and why a business with no local search presence quietly loses customers who live fifteen minutes away.

It also means your competition is regional, not just municipal. A Chino Valley customer searching for a service will see results from Prescott and Prescott Valley in the same list. Being the closest option does not help if you are the hardest one to find.
